All the Big Announcements from Nintendo Direct 2025 – The First in the Switch 2 Era

Nintendo has hosted several of its Direct livestreams this year, but last week’sSeptember broadcast was one of its biggest to date. As GameSpot reports, the livestream featured a balanced mix of first-party and third-party games, with special emphasis being placed on the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. franchise.

The celebrations included a new look at next year’s Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, the upcoming launch of both Super Mario Galaxy games on Switch 2, a new Mario Tennis game, and even a brand-new adventure for Yoshi. The other big reveals from the livestream included the December release date announcement for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Virtual Boy games for Switch Online subscribers, and a first look at the next Fire Emblem.

Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary

Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto kicked off the show with a closer look at how Nintendo plans to celebrate 40 years of Super Mario Bros.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination has been revealed, and Nintendo calls it the “main event” of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary celebrations. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters in April 2026 with Chris Pratt returning as the title character.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2

Two of the best 3D Mario games of all time–Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2–are getting remasters for the Switch 2 and Switch consoles, and they’ll be released as part of a bundle collection on October 2.

Super Mario Galaxy Amiibo

In addition to the classic Super Mario Galaxy games, you can also pick up new Mario and Rosalina Amiibo figures.

Mario Tennis Fever

A new Mario Tennis game has been allowed, and as you’d expect, you can serve up all kinds of action on the court. There will be 38 playable characters, various game modes, and even motion control support. The game also has a story mode, revolving around the cast being turned into babies.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder + Meetup in Bellabel Park

A Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is on the way, and it’ll add all kinds of new multiplayer-centric content to the critically acclaimed platformer. This version of the game will be available in Spring 2026.

Yoshi and The Mysterious Book

A new Yoshi game is finally on the way, and you can expect Yoshi and The Mysterious Book to arrive in Spring 2026.

Storm Lancers

Storm Lancers is a new retro-inspired action game coming exclusively to Switch, and it’s out now.

Dinkum

A timed exclusive for Switch, Dinkum is a cute survival game inspired by the Australian wilderness. It launches on November 5. A demo for it is also out right now.

Popucom

Cute co-op game Popucom will test your teamwork skills when it arrives later this year.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade

We’ve finally got a date for the Switch 2 release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. It’ll land on Switch on January 22, 2026.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Nintendo’s weird life-simulator game full of customizable Mii creations is out in Spring 2026.

Hades 2

Death to Chronos! A new trailer for Hades 2 was shown off, revealing several of the powerful combos you can pull off with weapons and magic. It’ll be out digitally on September 25, and a physical release arrives on November 20.

Mega Man Legacy: Starforce Collection

Like the other Mega Man compilations, all the Mega Man Star Force games are being bundled together into a single collection. This will be released later in 2026.

Kirby Air Riders

Another Direct for Kirby Air Riders Direct has been announced, and when the game is out, you can pick up two new Kirby Amiibo figures.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection

Mortal Kombat fans can take a trip down memory lane soon, as Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will be released for Switch consoles on October 30, digitally. A physical version of the compilation arrives on December 12.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Out on November 6, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment chronicles the secret history of a forgotten era.

Dragon Quest 7: Reimagined

Another classic Dragon Quest is getting a fresh lease on life. Dragon Quest 7: Reimagined launches on February 5, 2026.

Virtual Boy

Yes, that Virtual Boy is coming to Switch consoles as part of the Virtual Console. Not only are these games going to be playable on the consoles, there’ll even be a replica Virtual Boy headset that you can purchase and insert your Switch console into to replicate the original device. It’ll launch on February 17.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Nintendo is ending 2025 with a bang, as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on December 4. Also, Samus has a motorcycle now.

Metroid Prime Amiibo

New Metroid Prime Amiibo will launch this year. First out is Samus and Vi-O-La (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond) on November 6, and enigmatic bounty hunter Sylux (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond) will arrive on December 4.

Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island and Emerald Rush

Paid DLC launches for Donkey Kong Bananza today, adding new activities, challenges, and a few familiar faces to the smashing game.

Pokemon Pokopia

In this strange Pokemon spin-off, a Ditto takes on a human appearance and decides to build a new life for itself on a verdant island. It feels a lot like Minecraft and Animal Crossing, and it’ll be out in 2026 for Switch 2.

PowerWash Simulator 2

Proving that grime does pay–for the person cleaning it up–PowerWash Simulator 2 is out in Fall 2025 for Switch 2.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A

A few new Mega Evolutions were shown off in the trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Absol, Delphox, and Chesnaught will all be able to access powerful new forms in the game.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is getting paid DLC

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is out soon, and post-launch plans include paid DLC. The expansion–called Mega Dimension–features two Raichus who have different Mega Evolution forms.

Danganronpa 2×2

Danganronpa 2: Grave Despair is getting a remake, and like the original game, you’ll need to flex your cerebral muscles as you poke holes in alibis and piece various clues together in this murderous mystery game.

Resident Evil 7 and Village

The Gold Editions of the first-person Resident Evil games–Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village–are coming to Switch 2 on February 27.

Resident Evil Requiem

In addition to the Resident Evil games starring Ethan Winters, next year’s Resident Evil Requiem will also launch on the Switch 2 on February 27.

Lynked: Banner of the Spark

Now available, Lynked: Banner of the Spark is a roguelite with life-sim gameplay mechanics. It can be played in solo or multiplayer modes, and it supports several Switch 2 functions like mouse controls and GameShare.

Suika Game Planet

The cute puzzle game is back, and this time there’s a cosmic theme to it’s design. You’ll need to drop fruit towards the center of the planet to create as many big “Suika” watermelons as possible, eventually triggering new Super Evolution combos to help you win. This will be a timed exclusive for Switch 2 when it launches in Winter 2025.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

A new trailer showed off more of the Monster Hunter spin-off, and the skies of Rathalos that players can explore in this turn-based RPG. It’s out next year on March 13 for Switch 2.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake

The classic–and creepy–Fatal Frame 2 is back, and you can expect to once again use the power of the Camera Obscura to put help restless spirits find peace. The game will feature remade exploration and combat elements, and it’s scheduled to launch in early 2026.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Set during China’s Three Kingdoms period, Dynasty Warriors: Origins puts you in the boots of a nameless hero who must fight through thousands of enemies. It’ll be out on January 22 for Switch 2, and paid DLC will also launch alongside the game.

Closing out the Direct was the reveal of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Featuring a Greco-Roman influence, it’ll be out in 2026 for Switch 2.
