Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit earlier this week against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust crew whose “reckless behavior and cost-cutting” to Hutchins’s “senseless and tragic death.”
Matthew Hutchins, Halyna’s husband of 16 years, and their 9-year-old son are being represented by attorney Brian Panish, who held a press conference in LA after the filing.
Panish cited “numerous violations” of industry safety standards on the set of Rust. A 3D reenactment of the shooting was played for the media, as Panish explained that the Hutchins family undertook their own investigation.
The family is seeking “substantial” and “fair” compensation as Matthew “lost his long-term wife who was the love of his life, and his son has lost a mother.”
“It is a young boy who will never have a mother,” Panish said during the press conference. “We need to hold the people responsible that engaged in this cost-cutting and reckless behavior causing this senseless death… it never should have happened.”
Further Q&A took place, including Panish’s note that they “have found no evidence” of sabotage, although they are still investigating how a live round ended up on set.
No criminal charges have been filed against Baldwin or anyone involved in the case.
