After an illustrious five-decade career, Aerosmith has officially retired. The decision follows lead singer Steven Tyler’s vocal injury in September 2023, which occurred a few shows into their “Peace Out… Farewell Tour,” leading to a postponement of concerts until 2024.
On Friday, August 2, Aerosmith shared a heartfelt statement on social media, announcing the cancellation of the remaining tour dates and their retirement.
“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades,” the Instagram message began.
The band expressed their gratitude to their fans, saying, “Some of you have been with us since the beginning, and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history. It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing.”
Addressing Tyler’s health, Aerosmith noted, “His voice is an instrument like no other.” Despite months of effort to recover, it was clear that a full recovery was not possible. “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”
The band expressed profound gratitude to their fans, crew, and team. “A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
Originally scheduled to conclude in December, the farewell tour’s cancellation means ticket holders will receive automatic refunds via Ticketmaster. Fans who bought tickets from third-party sites should contact the point of purchase for details.
In the comments, fans shared heartfelt reactions. One wrote, “This is heartbreaking but I can’t imagine how the guys feel. Thank you, Aerosmith, for being a pivotal part of my life! Your music got me through some serious s—.” Another added, “Love you guys. Your music changed my life. 💜💔✨🙏.”
As Aerosmith closes this chapter, their legacy in rock ‘n’ roll history remains undeniable.
