Coldplay and Adele have had a great run musically, earning the praise of peers, and millions of dollars as contemporary performers. News that broke a few weeks ago reveal that they have been nominated for the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards, an award that honor excellence in British and Irish songwriting and composing.
Adele’s big hit “When We Were Young” is nominated in the category of ‘Most Performed Work,’ while Coldplay’s tunes “Adventure of a Lifetime” and “Hymn for the Weekend” have also been nominated. Although this lesser know award is not a Grammy, or even People’s Choice Award, it’s considered an industry plum to win. Adele has won three Ivor Novello Awards,” two for Songwriter of the Year, and another for the song “Rolling in the Deep.”
The Ivor Novello Awards is named after the famous Ivor Novello, a blue collar Welsh composer who himself was a singer and actor in the good old days. The 2017 Ivor Novello Awards will be held May 18 in London.
