Addison Rae Credits Charli XCX as Mentor in Her Rising Pop Career

Addison Rae is proving she’s more than just a social media star. At just 24, the TikTok sensation is successfully transitioning into a pop music career, and in a new Rolling Stone cover story, Rae shared how singer-songwriter Charli XCX has played a pivotal role in her evolution as an artist.

A Mentor in Charli XCX
Rae credits her relationship with Charli XCX as a transformative force in her journey to becoming a pop star. “Meeting Charli XCX was an obviously pivotal moment in my life,” Rae told Rolling Stone. “She has been such a big sister and mentor for me.”

Charli, who has consistently pushed boundaries in pop music, had nothing but praise for Rae. “She’s a f—ing genius,” Charli said, adding that Rae’s ability to weave her personality into every aspect of her public persona — from her music to her fashion choices to her tweets — shows her commitment to world-building as an artist.

Collaborative Magic
The duo has collaborated on multiple tracks, including Rae’s “2 Die 4” and the revamped “Von Dutch” from Charli’s Brat remix album. Charli reflected on their creative synergy, sharing a memorable moment when Rae walked into the studio wearing Ugg boots and hot pants after parking her pink Tesla in the driveway.

“She burst into the room and exclaimed, ‘Boys are stupid!’ and then immediately was like, ‘Wait, we should write a song about that!’” Charli recalled. “I know that sounds simple and maybe silly to some people, but to me that was such a sign of instinct and fearlessness.”

Building Confidence
For Rae, working with Charli was a turning point in building her confidence as a musician. “[Charli] respected me and my ideas,” Rae said. “It was the first time I really took the step on my own to be confident in the ideas I had and follow that. I owe that all to Charli.”

Teasing Her Musical Era
While Rae has yet to release her debut album, she’s already generating buzz with two singles that give fans a taste of what’s to come. Her sultry track “Aquamarine” has drawn attention, while her first Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Diet Pepsi,” signals her growing momentum as a pop star.

As Rae continues to evolve, her collaboration with Charli XCX serves as a testament to the power of mentorship and artistic fearlessness.
