Three Days Grace is entering a new chapter as Adam Gontier, the band’s original frontman, officially rejoins the lineup after a decade-long absence. Gontier’s return, alongside current lead vocalist Matt Walst, marks an exciting evolution for the band, blending nostalgia with fresh possibilities.
A Long-Awaited Reunion
Gontier, who helped form Three Days Grace in 1997, stepped away in 2013 to focus on personal matters. Now, he’s back and eager to contribute to what he calls some of the “best music” of his career.
“It’s just amazing,” Gontier said of the band’s latest work during an interview on Loudwire Nights.
For Matt Walst, who joined the band after Gontier’s departure, the reunion feels like a natural progression. “It’s like a new life in the band,” Walst shared, reflecting on how he grew up watching Three Days Grace rehearse in his family’s basement.
How It Happened
The reunion didn’t happen overnight. Conversations about Gontier’s return began more than two years ago, predating the surprise moment when he joined the band on stage in April 2023 in Huntsville, Alabama.
Gontier recalled the pivotal moment when bassist Brad Walst, Matt’s brother, reached out. “The guys were coming through [Nashville] and asked me if I wanted to come out and sing a couple of songs,” Gontier said. That invitation ultimately led to deeper discussions about rejoining the band full-time.
“There was no weirdness at all,” Matt Walst added. “We all thought, ‘What if this happened?’ And here we are three years later.”
New Music and Upcoming Performances
The reunion has already borne fruit with the release of “Mayday,” the first single to feature both Gontier and Walst as co-frontmen. The song previews what’s to come as the band finishes a new album, slated for release in 2024.
“We’re pretty close to finishing [the album],” Walst confirmed, adding that fans can expect it soon.
On the live front, Three Days Grace has a packed schedule for 2025. They’ll perform at major festivals and support Disturbed on the first leg of their The Sickness spring tour. Gontier and Walst are particularly excited about the creative opportunities that come with sharing the stage.
“We’ll trade off songs here and there,” Gontier explained. “There are so many songs [from the past decade] that I love and want to sing. And Matt might take on some of the older tracks. It’s going to be crazy.”
A New Dynamic for the Band
The band’s live shows will feature more than just vocal collaborations. Both Gontier and Walst will play guitar during performances, adding layers to their sound. “The possibilities are endless,” Walst said. “It’s going to be so fun.”
For Gontier, the reunion isn’t just about returning to familiar territory—it’s about exploring something entirely new with Walst and the band.
Fans Anticipate a Bright Future
As Three Days Grace prepares for their next era, fans are eagerly awaiting what’s to come. With a dynamic new lineup, fresh music on the horizon, and a robust live schedule, the band is poised to deliver on all fronts.
Whether through the power of nostalgia or the thrill of new possibilities, Three Days Grace is proving that sometimes, the best way forward is to combine the past with the present.
