Academy Invites Record 534 New Members, Including 2025 Oscar Winners and Global Talent

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expanding its ranks with its largest new member class in five years. On Thursday, the Academy announced 534 new invitees, a diverse group of filmmakers, actors, and industry leaders, many of whom were recognized at the 2025 Academy Awards.

Among the high-profile additions are 2025 Oscar winners Mikey Madison, Kieran Culkin, and cinematographer Lol Crawley, along with nominees Ariana Grande, Sebastian Stan, and Brandi Carlile. Late-night icons Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel, along with their producing teams, have also been invited, as have influential industry executives from Disney, Sony, Neon, and more.

The class continues the Academy’s push for greater diversity, with 41% of invitees being women, 45% from underrepresented communities, and over half based outside the United States.

One notable omission is Karla Sofía Gascón, the history-making trans actress from Emilia Pérez, who became embroiled in controversy after her nomination.

Palestinian filmmaker Hamdan Ballal, recently in the spotlight for both his Oscar win and detention in Israel, was included, following widespread criticism of the Academy’s delayed response to his situation.

If all accept, Academy voting membership will surpass 10,000 for the first time.
