Aaron Rodgers and New York Jets Part Ways Ahead of 2025 Season

In a significant development, the New York Jets have informed quarterback Aaron Rodgers that he will not be part of the team’s plans for the 2025 NFL season. This decision comes after a challenging tenure marked by injuries and underperformance.

Rodgers, 41, joined the Jets in 2023 with high expectations. However, his inaugural season was cut short due to a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained during his debut game. The following year, despite his return, the team struggled to a 5-12 record, with Rodgers’ performance showing signs of decline.

Financial considerations also played a role in the Jets’ decision. Retaining Rodgers would have added a $37.5 million salary cap hit for the upcoming season. By designating him as a post-June 1 release, the team can manage the cap implications more effectively, allowing Rodgers to sign with a new team starting March 12.

As Rodgers contemplates his future, several teams have emerged as potential destinations. The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently favored to sign him, with odds at +200, followed by the Las Vegas Raiders at +300. Other possible suitors include the San Francisco 49ers and the Tennessee Titans.

Rodgers has expressed a desire to continue his NFL career, stating, “I think so, yeah,” when asked about returning next year. However, analysts note that it will be an “uphill battle” for him to play in 2025, given his recent injury history and age.

As the offseason progresses, the NFL community will closely monitor Rodgers’ next move, anticipating where the veteran quarterback will continue his storied career.
