The 2017 Home Run Derby took place last night and history was made. Aaron Judge was the first rookie ever to win the competition! He took down Miguel Sano in the championship round to take home the hardware.
Judge won in that championship round with just under two minutes left on the lock, it wasn’t even close. He was hitting monstrous home runs all night long and in total the entire night included 195 home runs, 10 less than the record for most in one derby. So far this season, Judge is hitting .329 with 30 home runs, having one of the best rookie seasons we can remember in a long time.
Last year’s winner, Giancarlo Stanton, lost in the first round to Gary Sanchez 17-16.
