Let’s show case another band that we’ve included into our ‘A to Z.’ Here is the letter ‘H.’
Okay, the temptation to write about Hall and Oates is overwhelming, but for the letter H we want to share our thoughts on is the lesser known Uriah Heep. Smack dab in the middle of Led Zeppelin, Stones, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were these five rocking dudes from London called ‘Uriah Heep.’ Here’s the genius of Uriah. While all the other British rockers fell over themselves getting to the USA, the Heep went the other way, to the East – Germany, Poland, Russia and Scandinavia to make their bones and popularity. Brilliant!
Uriah Heep has sold nearly 50 million records. At one time Nigel Olsson was the drummer, but left the group to tour with Elton John. The boys in various lineups have recorded 25 albums and have been on tour consistently since the in the 70s. Finally, Uriah Heep has opened for Rush, Def Leppard, and Judas Priest over the years.
