A Hong Kong Restaurant Group Published An Extensive Manual About COVID-19 For Other Restaurants To Reference

As restaurants start to phase into re-opening, many are adjusting their procedures to keep workers and customers safe during the ongoing pandemic. A Hong Kong restaurant group has published a thorough COVID-19 playbook for these businesses that has become a widely referenced resource.

 

Black Sheep Restaurants was founded by Syed Asim Hussain and Christopher Mark. The group operates 25 establishments across Hong Kong, two of which are Michelin-starred. According to CNN, the pair began working on a plan for their restaurants back in January when news of the highly contagious novel coronavirus hit. Hussain and Mark collaborated on a plan for their own restaurant’s operations, but decided to publish the playbook online for anyone to use. The 17-page manual has since been translated into four languages and Hussain told CNN that they’ve received emails from individuals all over the world expressing their gratitude for the resource.

 

The handbook is constantly being updated to reflect new information that comes out about COVID-19. It was most recently updated on May 8 and can be viewed and downloaded here. The resource includes extensive information and suggestions about cleanliness, guest relations, delivery, and more. Three of the main takeaways outline the importance of customers and workers wearing masks, collecting information about health and travel history from customers, and issuing temperature checks at the door.

 

Of course, practices in restaurants may vary depending on location; in the U.S., we’ve so far mainly seen limited capacity inside of dining rooms or outdoor seating only. This guidebook is meant to offer advice and insight about how Black Sheep Restaurants has been continuing their service amid the pandemic.
