A Deeper Look Into the 2017 Hall of Fame Class – Electric Light Orchestra

The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class was announced last week, and this week we’re taking a closer look at each inductee. The 2017 class is Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur and Yes.

Did you know that the Electric Light Orchestra began with former ‘Move’ founder Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne in the late 60s? Their debut album ‘Electric Light Orchestra’ in 1971 was a groundbreaking effort, given the band used nontraditional rock instruments to create a unique sound.

The band had many admirers, including the late John Lennon who once called the band the ‘sons of the Beatles’ for their innovative sound.

The band’s top songs were “Don’t Bring me Down,” “Turn to Stone” and “Evil Woman.” ELO has sold over 75 million records over a span of 30 years. In November 2016, Jeff Lynne’s ELO won ‘Band of the Year’ at the Classic Rock Roll of Honor Awards. In spite of numerous lineups, Jeff Lynne, Toy Wood, Richard Tandy, and Bev Bevan will be at the awards ceremony in April for the event.
