“Levitating” is a song by English singer Dua Lipa from her second studio album, Future Nostalgia. The song was written by Lipa, Clarence Coffee Jr., Sarah Hudson and Stephen Kozmeniuk, with the image of Mike Myers in Austin Powers in mind. The production was handled by Koz and Stuart Price, and stemmed from a Roland VP-330 synthesizer sample played by the former. The song is an electro-disco and nu-disco song with several disco tropes. It incorporates elements of dance-pop, pop-funk, power pop and space rock, as well as 1970s, 1980s and 1990s pop and R&B styles. The lyrics describe the idea of “levitating” when falling in love, with several outer space references.
“You want me, I want you, baby
My sugarboo, I’m levitating
The Milky Way, we’re renegading
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I got you, moonlight, you’re my starlight
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I’m levitating
You, moonlight, you’re my starlight (You’re the moonlight)
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I’m levitating”
“Levitating” has so far reached number 5 on the UK Singles Chart and number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Lipa’s third top 10 single in the US. It has also reached number 7 on the Billboard Global 200 chart. The song was awarded a gold certification in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry.
