According to NationalToday.com, the doughy invention made its way to the United States with Polish-Jewish immigrants in the 1800s. Bagels became a New York City staple in the early 1900s, and by 1950, they were being sold in grocery stores all over the country. National Bagel Day is a way to celebrate the rich history of bagels.

The best way to celebrate National Bagel Day 2021 is to eat a bagel! In previous years, places like Einstein Bagels, Bruegger’s Bagels, Manhattan Bagel and Panera advertised bagel freebies and deals on January 15. Here’s where you can get a free bagel on National Bagel Day this year:
Bagel Freebies & Deals on National Bagel Day
Barry Bagels. Based in Michigan and Ohio, Barry Bagels hasn’t released its 2021 National Bagel Day deal yet, but in 2020, customers received a free bagel and cream cheese with the purchase of a bagel and cream cheese on January 15, so keep a look out for their deal.
Bruegger’s Bagels. Known for its New York-style bagels, Bruegger’s Bagels is giving away free bagels with cream cheese on Friday, January 15 when you make a purchase. The offer will run through Sunday, January 31.
Einstein Bros. Bagels. Last year, Einstein Bagels had an offer for a free bagel and schmear with purchase on January 15. We’re expecting to see a similar deal released this year.
Ess-A-Bagel. If you’ve ever traveled to New York City, you probably tried, or heard people talking about, Ess-A-Bagel. The famous bagel shop hasn’t released a 2021 deal yet, but last year, they donated their January 15 proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We’ll see what they have up their sleeve this year!
Manhattan Bagel. Manhattan Bagel is celebrating National Bagel Day with an offer for a free bagel and cream cheese for just $0.99 on January 15. Customers can choose from freshly baked flavors like Asiago or Pumpernickel.
Thomas’ Bagels. As one of the most recognizable bagel brands, Thomas’ Bagel gave away free bagels and cream cheese in a few major cities last year, including Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Check back to see if the company releases a similar promotion in honor of National Bagel Day this year.
