Although COVID-19 restrictions have prevented restaurants, breweries, and other businesses from running as usual, one brewery has taken the now-necessary delivery procedures to the next level.
Six Harbors Brewing Company in Long Island, New York, is owned by Karen and Mark Heuwetter, who have had to make some drastic changes to their business model in light of the global pandemic. To their dismay, the brewery itself had to stop allowing customers inside.
But no one was more emotionally affected than their two golden retrievers, Buddy, 3, and Barley, 1. The pups were often hanging around the brewery and always eager to interact with patrons. When the patrons stopped coming (and the dogs’ daily petting quotas were suddenly not being met), Buddy and Barley needed a new way to keep in touch with their human brewery friends.
Thankfully, after their owners fashioned 4-pack harnesses (the cans are empty, of course) as accessories for the dogs, they soon assumed the very important roles of delivery assistants as their owners bring orders to local customers amid the pandemic. “When they go out and make people smile, I think people really like that,” Karen told CBS This Morning: Saturday. “In fact, people need that these days, so when they put a smile on people’s faces they’re doing their job—which, by nature, is easy for them.”
Cheers to Six Harbors Brewing Company for meeting a challenge with the help of their furry friends!
