Demi Lovato Drops New ‘I Love Me’ Lyric Video

On Tuesday, March 10th, Demi Lovato conveyed her self-love narrative in her new “I Love Me” lyric video. The video has a very obvious vintage influence when it comes to its imagery.

The way Lovato picks herself up throughout the song and transmits that uplifting message to her fans is seen in the low-angle skyscraper shots, signifying how one can rise above his or her own circumstances by comparing themselves to the grand buildings rising above.

Sound familiar?  This imagery seems to be an homage to Lovato’s 2011 “Skyscraper” single, where she boldly claims in the chorus, “I will be rising from the ground/ Like a skyscraper.”

Following the lyric “flipping through all of these magazines/ telling me who I’m supposed to be,” the visual transports  right into the hustle and bustle of the city, where it’s easy to feel small. But Lovato’s comeback tale emphasized in the top line — “I wonder when ‘I love me’ is enough” — is the light at the end of the (subway) tunnel.

Feel free to watch and listen to the self love anthem here.
