It’s never easy narrowing down a list of the best games of the year, but 2019 seemed particularly difficult for the editors at The Verge. There wasn’t a single blockbuster that dominated the conversation, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad year for games — in fact, the depth and breadth of titles was impressive. During the voting process, The Verge staff called out forty-five different games as ranking among their favorites. So, after a lot of discussion (some apparently got a little heated) they managed to whittle that down to the Ten Best Video Games of the Year.
Here is their list (in no particular order):
Baba Is You
Control
Devil May Cry 5
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Outer Wilds
Pokémon Sword and Shield
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Telling Lies
Untitled Goose Game
