Alongside PSLs and leggings, a fleece jacket used to be a key part of the Basic Student starter pack. Now, the fashion industry is claiming it as its own.
Indie designer Sandy Liang was the first to adopt the look back in 2015 with her Insta-famous outerwear, and she’s still leading the pack with her “Dean Faux-Fur Mixed Leopard Print Fleece” ($595 saksfifthavenue.com) but now the trend is peaking and more designers are falling for fleece. Philip Lim, Fendi, and other top designers elevated the jacket for the Fall ‘19 runway, literally putting the ‘camp’ in ‘campy.’
Expect to see shearling move beyond college campuses and hiking trails, thanks to reworked silhouettes like the Faux Sherling Utility Vest from & Other Stories ($119 stories.com), or the cozy Sierra Pullover from Anine Bing ($199 aninebing.com).
If you want to stand out from the crowd, you could go for the eye-catching Hooded Printed Shearling Jacket from Miu Miu ($2,270 modaoperandi.com) or lavender Pile Jacket from H&M ($24.99 hm.com).
Of course, you could just wear an OG Patagonia Retro-X Fleece Jacket ($199, patagonia.com) with a floral dress (as seen at Coach 1941) or search through the men’s section and find the Campshire Pullover Hoodie from The North Face ($149 nordstrom.com).
No matter how you choose to wear it, snuggle up and fall into fleece for Fall 2019.
