Meghan Trainor just dropped a brand new track, titled “Genetics”.
“Genetics” leaked earlier in 2019 and has been in the works for the best part of a year, with Trainor talking it up during a red carpet chat with Billboard ahead of last December’s Jingle Ball.
The project was produced by Mike Sabath, the long-percolating new tune “Genetics,” which got its official release at midnight, has a subtle electronic soundbed reminiscent of Daft Punk’s work.
On it, she sings: “How you get that bod?/ Is it from god? / Did you work real hard? / G-E-N-E-T-I-C-S / How you get that bass? / Is it all fake? / Made in LA / G-E-N-E-T-I-C-S.”
Speaking of her upcoming album Treat Myself, Trainor said the LP reflected her maturity as a songwriter, she’d become sassier, and she wanted “Genetics” to be her next single. “It’s kinda like (All About That) Bass 2.0”. It’s about my genetics and how you get that bod? It’s genetics. I’ve been blessed,” she explained.
“Genetics” should appear on Treat Myself, Trainor’s third major-label studio album release, due out next year. It’s the followup to 2017’s Thank You, which hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and 2015’s Title, which went to No. 1.
