The Best Dressed Athletes at the 2019 Espy Awards

Athletes have always loved to flex, and today’s biggest stars — heavy hitters like Dwyane Wade and Odell Beckham Jr. — have taken the tunnel style game to an entirely new level and have become front row fixtures in their own right. On Wednesday evening, this able-bodied bunch brought their sartorial A-game and bold off-court ‘fits to the red carpet in Los Angeles for the 2019 Espy Awards.

Beckham opted for a white shirt layered under a tan sleeveless top (with what looked like a large pouch in the front) and matching tan Bermuda shorts. The look, which Twitter users likened to a Girl Scout Uniform, was Prada; he certainly deserves points for using “Troop Beverly Hills” as inspiration. Wade went the more standard red carpet route in a tailored cream suit, while his plus one, Gabrielle Union, wore a floral puff-sleeve mini by Raisa & Vanessa, which she accompanied with a quirky cocktail clutch.

Alex Morgan, who was crowned “Best Female Athlete” of the year and was still high off her Women’s World Cup victory, chose a sequined strapless gown by Thai Nguyen. Red carpet darling Elle Fanning was also in attendance — and drenched in sparkles. The actress wore a shimmery ground-grazing, one-shoulder frock by Hedi Slimane for Celine.
