Who Needs Diamonds When Nike Has Swarovski

Nike is teaming up with Swarovski for it’s latest collaboration, and the result is everything a girl wants from her best friend and more.

The international athletic shoe brand revamped its classic Women’s Air VaporMax Flyknit 2, which was first introduced in 2018, but with a glittery twist. For the first time ever, Nike used classic hand-beading techniques — like those used on couture gowns — to apply 1,000 Swarovski crystals to the sneaker. Another cool fact? The crystals were purposefully placed on the upper to refract light.

This isn’t the first time, or no doubt the last, that Nike will be bedazzling their footwear.  In December of 2018, they adorned their Air Max 97 with Gold Swarovski crystals, which the company says paid homage to their original silver shoe inspired by the industrial finish on mountain  bikes over 20 years ago.  The Air Max 97, retailed at $400, sold out in nanoseconds.  So it stands to reason that NikeWomen designers would partner with “material pioneer” Swarovski to creatively embellish even more kicks.

The Air VaporMax Flyknit 2 will retail for $500 and will be available on Nike.com starting March 15.
