Weezer’s ‘Take On Me’ Video Features Finn Wolfhard as Young Rivers Cuomo

On Tuesday, February 12th, Weezer released a video for their cover of “Take On Me”. The video stars Stranger Things actor, and Weezer superfan, Finn Wolfhard and his band Calpurnia, in an homage to a-ha’s classic hit.

The teen actor, and budding rocker, plays a young Rivers Cuomo in the clip and was more than thrilled to step into the Weezer frontman’s shoes. “This video was an absolute blast to film and I’m so excited for everyone to see it,” Wolfhard said in a release. “Calpurnia has covered Weezer in the past and I’m really honored that they asked us to do this.”

In a tribute to a-ha’s imaginative original, the Weezer video features the same combination of pencil-sketch animation and live action as the 1985 hit, with the Calpurnia kids rocking out in a living room while Wolfhard-as-Cuomo’s mother is away.

“Take On Me” is the latest single off Weezer’s surprise album of cover songs, Weezer (The Teal Album), which was released Jan. 24 and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 (chart dated Feb. 9). Starting next month, the band will hit the road with Pixies for a run of North American arena dates, and are set to release their next album of original music — Weezer (The Black Album) on March 1.
