Happy National Cream-Filled Chocolates Day!

February 14 is Valentine’s Day, and not surprisingly, it’s also National Cream-Filled Chocolates Day. On a day when heart-shaped boxes are filled with bite-sized chocolates with ooey, gooey centers, quite a few of these cream-filled goodies will be exchanged and shared on this holiday.

Whether it is milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate filled with marshmallow cream, creme de menthe or coconut cream, there is a variety of choices to fit every chocolate lovers palate. If you’re indulging, share the news by posting #NationalCreamFilledChocolates on social media.

Here are some Fun Facts about Valentine’s Day treats:

  • In the 1800’s, physicians commonly advised their lovelorn patients to eat chocolate to calm their pining.
  • More than 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold for Valentine’s Day.
  • At one time, Conversation Heart candies were made into shapes including horseshoes, baseballs, and watches.
  • At least 10 new conversation heart sayings are introduced each year. Recent additions include “Yeah Right,” “Call Home” and “Puppy Love.”
  • It is believed that Madame Du Barry served chocolate to all her suitors; Casanova consumed chocolate instead of champagne to induce romance; and Montezuma, the king of the ancient Aztecs, believed chocolate would make him virile.
