Weezer has been releasing their own music for almost twenty years. They recently did give in to the peer-group pressure last year and released not one but two Toto covers. The second, a rendition of “Africa,” was a surprise hit giving the band their first No. 1 song on Billboard’s Rock Airplay Chart, their first Alternative Songs chart-leader in a decade and a first Hot 100-impacting track in over 12 years.
With the success of the new renditions on classic hits, Weezer ran with it for a full-length LP, The Teal Album (Crush Music/Atlantic Records), which dropped at midnight on digital music services. This time, they cover A-ha, Tears For Fears, Michael Jackson, E.L.O. and more. Of course, there’s space for Toto’s “Africa”.
The Teal Album precedes the band’s forthcoming new album of originals, The Black Album, due out March 1st. As previously reported, Cuomo and Co. will hit the road with Pixies this spring for a North American arena tour, kicking off March 8th at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY.
