The Super Bowl halftime show lineup 2019 is finally complete. The NFL officially announced Sunday, January 13th, that Maroon 5 will be joined by Travis Scott and Big Boi at the big game in Atlanta on February 3rd.
Numerous high-profile artists, such as Rihanna, Adele, JAY-Z, P!nk, and Cardi B just to name a few, have reportedly turned down this year’s halftime slot in solidarity with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The controversy around Kaepernick began when the then-San Francisco 49ers QB started kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 in protest of racial inequality in the U.S. Kaepernick hasn’t played professionally since March 2017 and he filed a grievance against the league and its owners last fall for conspiring to not hire him.
News of Scott’s involvement with the halftime show was initially met with some criticism. Michael B. Jordan, Reverend Al Sharpton and others voiced their disapproval of Scott’s choice to team up with the NFL after their treatment of Kaepernick.
Maroon 5 were confirmed to play the Super Bowl halftime show in September. Super Bowl LIII will take place on Feb. 3 at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
