Janelle Monáe learned about her nomination for album of the year at the 2019 Grammy Awards, and could not hold back the tears.
Monáe joined CBS This Morning on Friday, December 7th, to help reveal the best country album nominees for the 61st Grammy Awards. Host Norah O’Donnell announced that Monáe’s 2018 album, Dirty Computer, was nominated for album of the year, shortly after.
She was naturally emotional upon hearing the news.
“Being a young, black, queer woman in America, there was something I had to say — a group of people I wanted to celebrate. I’m happy to be representing them,” Monáe said. “I hope they feel seen, I hope they feel heard. I hope they feel loved, I hope they feel celebrated.”
