This Day in Music History – December 6th

1968 – James Taylor’s self-titled album was released in Britain.

1968 – Elvis Presley received one of 66,000 letters that U.S. President Nixon sent out to potential administrative office holders.

1969 – The Rolling Stones released the album “Beggar’s Banquet.”

1970 – “Gimme Shelter” opened in the U.S. It is a documentary film about the Rolling Stones’ 1969 tour of the U.S.

1978 – Sid Vicious smashed glass in the face of Patti Smith’s brother Todd during an altercation at New York rock club Hurrah. Vicious was out on bail after being charged with the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.

1988 – Metallica music recorded their first music video. It was for the song “One.”

1993 – The Eagles taped a video for Travis Tritt’s version of “Take It Easy” which led to their reunion.

1995 – Michael Jackson was hospitalized after collapsing in a New York theater while rehearsing for a TV special.

1995 – Joni Mitchell was awarded the Billboard’s Century Award.

1997 – Metallica music performed “Fuel” and “The Memory Remains” with Marianne Faithfull on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
