If you were a ‘Fact of Life’ fan in the late 70s and early 80s, you well remember Charlotte Rae, best known for her role as the mom has died at the age of 92 this week. Charlotte died in Los Angeles after a lengthy battle with bone cancer.
Charlotte had the distinction of being the center of the universe for two terrific shows; ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ and ‘The Facts of Life,’ guiding the early stars of Todd Bridges, Mindy Cohn, Kim Fields and Nancy McKeon. Charlotte was born in Milwaukee, doing local radio after high school, local plays and theater before moving out to New York where she eventually appeared in cameos on television.
Her television body of work included early moments on the Kraft Television Theater, to ‘Car 54 Where Are You’ ‘The Partridge Family’ ‘Barney Miller’ ‘The Love Boat’ and 2014’s ‘Girl Meets World. It’s safe to say she’ll always be connected to ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ and ‘The Facts of Life,’ but we’ll always remember her comedic timing and wonderful smile; Charlotte Rae, dead at 92.
