Pentatonix released a new album called PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I. in April, and has just agreed to sing the National Anthem at this year’s 144th Kentucky Derby next month. The A Capella group consists of Kirstie Moldonado, Kevin Olusola, Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, and their newest member Matt Sallee who replaced original members Avi Kaplan.
The event is close to the heart for member Kevin Olusola, a native of nearby Owensboro, Kentucky, but it’s not the 1st time the group has performed the National Anthem; they lent their smooth voices for the professional Charlotte Bobcats game in 2011. The Derby spectacular takes place Saturday, May 5th, and will be broadcast live on NBC.
The band’s ninth studio LP, PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I, has just dropped this past week.
