Dolly Would Love Another ‘9 to 5’

Dolly Parton proved in 1980 that she was more than a country singer, impressing her fans and Hollywood critics in her role as secretaries being harassed by their boss, the late Dabney Coleman in the film ‘9 to 5’ which also generated a top 10 theme song hit.

Now, Dolly tells friends and family that she’d be interested in a ‘9 to 5’ reboot, and as luck would have it, both of her co-stars Jane Fonda and Lilly Tomlin are on board with the idea. There is a slight problem, however, one that is delaying more serious discussions; in this #MeToo and #TimesUp environment, sexual harassment in the workplace has lost its luster for comedy, so the complications are in what approach to take in the film. Jane Fonda and Lilly Tomlin are currently starring in the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie,” so there is a timing component as well.

Dolly Parton has been honored by the Library of Congress for her work in Child Literacy charity called ‘Imagination Library.’ The concept is quite simple; the charity sends a book to children from the day they are born to kindergarten. The organization has just sent its one-millionth book.
