They’re Bringing Back Magnum P.I.

The buzz out of Hollywood is the news that producers of the upcoming reboot of the popular television series “Magnum P.I.” have signed Jay Hernandez as Thomas Magnum, the handsome star of the show.

Jay will slide into the role of Thomas Magnum, with an updated bio; a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who returns from the Middle East to become a private investigator. We know that the original Thomas Magnum was the handsome actor Tom Selleck. Tom has spent the last few seasons as the patriarch of the CBS program ‘Blue Bloods.’

Over the years Hollywood has done a terrific job wrapping its arms around familiar themes and hits from the past; Charlies Angles, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and 21 Jump Street are all examples of successful franchise projects.

Jay has a fairly impressive resume; starring in the films “Hostel,” “Bad Moms,” and “Friday Night Lights,” while recently appearing on the television series “Nashville.”

CBS is also greenlighting pilots of “Cagney and Lacey” and “Murphy Brown.”
