In the early 70s, British musicians who didn’t fit in, decided to become outrageous stage performers, wearing wild outfits, makeup, shiny platform shoes, and pierced anything creating what is called ‘Glam Rock.’ These performers wanted fans to guess about their gender and styles, generally sounding punk.
FM radio became the haven for these artists, as only a few Glam Rock songs ever made it to the commercial charts. “Rock and Roll Part II” by Gary Glitter, and a few of David Bowie’s songs from his ‘Ziggy Stardust’ days ever received pop crossover airplay.
