Paul Simon is 76 and thinking he’s nearing the end of his touring and exhausting music journey. Paul is scheduled to appear at London’s British Summer Time Hyde Park 2018 festival on July 15, following legendary James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt. Promoters of the event are calling it his “Farewell Performance.”
Paul and Art met in Queens, New York in the late 50s, releasing “Hey Schoolgirl” their first charted song, inspired by the Everly Brothers. The boys had their first big hit with “The Sounds of Silence” in 1965. Hollywood director Mike Nichols used Simon and Garfunkel songs in his 1967 film “The Graduate,” and the rest is music history.
As a solo artist, Paul made his mark with the albums ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’ and the classic ‘Graceland,’ and his last LP was released in 2016 called ‘Stranger to Stranger.’ We’ll miss Paul on tour, but he’s achieved nearly everything a musician can do; so let’s celebrate his ‘Farewell Performance’ in London this July and hold on to the memories.
