Elton’s Best is Better Than All the Rest

Elton John announced his retirement from touring recently, committing to a three-year goodbye called ‘The Yellow Brick Road’ tour, and it reminded all of us just how incredible a writer and performer he’s been. Here are our favorite Elton John tunes…

“Your Song” is sitting in the Grammy Hall of Fame for a simple reason; it’s a classic. The song released in 1970 as the ‘B’ side to the single “Take Me to the Pilot”. Most fans don’t know that the song was recorded and released by Three Dog Night a few months earlier.

“Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player” is the album begot the incredible songs “Teacher I Need You” and “Elderberry Wine,” “Blues for My Baby and Me” and “Crocodile Rock.” Although the songs didn’t chart well, these tunes are vintage Elton worthy of playing over and over again.

“Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding” from the ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ LP was a pure FM hit as it was far too long to receive Top40 airplay.

“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” was a hit for Elton, but really solidified its place in music history when recorded by the late George Michael. Elton makes a guest appearance on the live version with George in 1992, bringing down the house.
