Procol Harum is about to release their 50th Anniversary musical project called ‘Still There’ll Be More – An Anthology 1967-2017’ which will come in five CDs and three DVDs containing 69 tracks, and it reminded us of our favorite Procol Harum tunes…
“A Whiter Shade of Pale” unexpectedly became one of the ‘Summer of Love’ signature songs from 1967, breaking into the Top 5 on the US charts. The tune is enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame, and thought to have more than 1,000 artists cover the song.
Although written five years earlier on the Procol Harum debut LP, the song “Conquistador” became famous in 1972. There are two hit versions of the song; the original 1967 version has guitar virtuoso Robin Trower, 1972 does not.
“Whiskey Train” is all about Robin Trower, and a vintage Procol Harum song from their 1970 ‘Home’ LP. The guitar riff is legendary, copied by hundreds of guitarists since its use in this song.
