More Soul Salutes to Entertain You!

We’ve been honoring the great soul singers and bands that deserve special attention, so let’s not stop now.

The Staples Singers were, in fact, a family from Chicago, and much like the Jackson family it had a patriarch – Pops Staples. Other family members included Cleotha, Pervis, Mavis (who is currently touring with Bob Dylan) and Yvonne. “Respect Yourself,” “”I’ll Take You There,” “If You’re Ready (Come Go with Me),” and “Let’s Do It Again,” got you off the dance floor while selling millions of records. The Staples Singers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. Pops died in 2000, Cleotha in 2013.

Let’s give a quick shout out to soul stars Parliament, The Commodores, Phillis Hyman, Labelle, Minnie Ripperton, and Evelyn Champaign King.
