It was announced a few weeks ago that soul icon Patti LaBelle has earned the ‘BMI Icon Honor,’ at the 2017 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, scheduled for August 31 at The Woodruff Arts Center’s Symphony Hall in Atlanta.
Patti hit the charts in the 70s as he lead singer of the soulful funk band ‘Lady Marmalade” and “If Only You Knew”, “On My Own” and “New Attitude” in the 80s, influencing today’s stars and business leaders for decades. Did you know Patti was the first African American woman to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine?
Previous winners are Nile Rodgers, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, James Brown, and Al Green. The BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards also plans to honor songwriters, producers and record executives that have grown the R&B and hip-hop space over the past year.
