In 1982 the price of a gallon of gas was under a $1, the top movies of the year were ‘ET,’ ‘On Golden Pond,’ and ‘Chariots of Fire.’ What was the music like in 1982?
John Cougar Mellencamp “Hurts So Good”
Survivor “Eye Of The Tiger”
Scorpions “No One Like You”
Journey “Open Arms”
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts “I Love Rock And Roll”
Men at Work “Who Can It Be Now”
J. Geils Band “Centerfold”
Foreigner “Juke Box Hero”
Toto “Rosanna”
Judas Priest “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin”
The Cars “Shake It Up”
Observations: Many of the bands that contributed to the soundtrack of our lives in 1982 are still touring, but what’s hard to believe is that only Journey and Joan Jett are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and not the deserving Cars, Foreigner, Survivor, or Toto. One fact remains and that’s the top songs from 1982 were all million sellers, all memorable tunes, and would be on any one’s music list today. Also, our good thoughts go out to the family and friends of J. Geils who passed away a few weeks ago.
