Loverboy, One of the Greatest From the Country Up North

Everyone knows Canada is a wonderful country to the north that has given us the great sport of hockey, and a few great actors like Dan Aykroyd and William Shatner among others. Canada has also made its mark musically by being the birthplace of ‘Loverboy,’ one of the best bands from the late 70s and 80s. The band is out on tour, and next week we’ll share the scheduled dates and locations.

Loverboy has sold millions of albums and has won multiple Juno Awards (the Canadian version of the Grammy) and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Here are three more interesting things about love or you may not know…

In 1986 “Heaven in Your Eyes” was the song featured in the movie blockbuster ‘Top Gun’, but Doug Johnson of the band refused to appear in the video because he felt glorified war.

Loverboy officially broken up in 1989, but agreed to come together for one performance only in 1991 as a benefit, and realized it was the most from that had in years – so collectively they agreed to do another 16-date concert tour that began a year later.

The song “Working for the Weekend” was used in a “Saturday Night Live” skit with Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze as a Chippendale addition, and to this day is one of the most watched clips of all time for the TV show. It also spurred millions of single sales for the song after it aired.
