“The Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East” was the band’s third album released in 1971, selling millions of copies. The double album was recorded in New York City over three nights, containing the classics “Whipping Post,” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” This album is considered by many to be one of the greatest live rock and roll releases of all time.

The Band ‘Chicago Transit Authority’ (Chicago) did something no new group would dare do; release their debut album with two discs of material! The Clash’s ‘London Calling’ was an ambitious double album release, containing just under 65 minutes of music. “Quadrophenia” by the Who was released in late 1973, becoming a classic best seller.
