Benjamin Evans Rector was born in Tulsa, OK in 1986 to an average Oklahoma family, growing up taking piano lessons at a very early age, barley practicing, or caring much at all for the instrument. Ben would later pick up a guitar and the practice hours grew longer and the songwriting became more serious. While studying as a freshman at the University of Arkansas, he recorded a self-titled composition called “Conversation,” earning him the Grand Prize in the pop category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2006. Ben is all about ‘firsts’ as he was the youngest to win that award in the pop category.
Ben moved to Nashville in 2010, and got busy. If you think he’s taking it easy over the past few years, you would be wrong; he‘s recorded six albums including his latest self-entitled LP “Brand New.” Ben has sold over 250,000 albums independently; creating over 2 million downloads of his music.
Ben Rector is quite the interesting artist isn’t he?
