On the thirrd day of the Woodstock Music Festival, August 17th 1969, the organizers were battling heat, the rain, and sound problems on the main stage.
On day three, Joe Cocker, Ten Years After, The Band, Johnny Winter, Blood Sweat and Tears, Sha Na Na (really), Jimi Hendrix, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young kicked out the jams on stage. “Sweet Judy Blue Eyes” was performed by CSN&Y for the very first time on stage, while they played two sets; electric and acoustic. Neil Young skipped the acoustic set.
If you ever see the Woodstock movie, the heaviest rain fell on the Joe Cocker set on day three.
Did you know that The Jeff Beck Group had been booked to play the festival, but had to pass as they broke up two weeks prior to the show? Iron Butterfly was stuck in the LaGuardia Airport and couldn’t get to the venue.
