It wasn’t too long ago that one of the superstar players on the Oklahoma City Thunder left town to go play for one of the best teams in the NBA, but now Thunder fans don’t have to worry about their other star leaving town. Russell Westbrook has signed a three-year, $86 million extension this week.
The superstar point guard averaged 23.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.4 assists last season. What was the most amazing statistical feat he accomplished last season was his 18 triple doubles. For those wondering, that ties the record for most triple doubles in the past 30 years with Magic Johnson.
Last season, the Thunder were knocked out of the playoffs by the Golden State Thunder even though they started the series up 3-1 after four games. The Thunder likely won’t have the same kind of team last season because of Kevin Durant leaving for the Warriors. With this extension in place, you can almost guarantee Westbrook will be one of the few favorites for the 2016-2017 MVP.
