MLB Trade Deadline Winners

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone and while it wasn’t as exciting as year’s past, there was enough action for everyone to enjoy. Some of the teams who were buyers surprised us while those selling also shocked us. It’s always weird when you see the New York Yankees selling off some of their best pieces for prospects.

The biggest winners of the trade deadline were the San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians. The Giants made a very under the radar move with the addition of Matt Moore. The young left hander should bolster the staff that has seen pitchers like Jake Peavy and Jeff Samardzija struggle at times.

The Texas Rangers received some very nice bats via the deadline with addition of Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy. Lucroy is more than just a great addition at the plate. He’ll help shore up the catcher position that has been weak at times and be a great mentor for some of the young pitchers on the Rangers’ staff.

The Cleveland Indians tried to get Lucroy from the Brewers, but instead all they could muster was Andrew Miller. There’s nothing wrong with adding a dominant left handed reliever at the trade deadline. He should help make the Indians bullpen one every team is scared to see for a few years before likely testing the free agent market.
