In 1969, brothers Duane and Gregg Allman, Dickie Betts, Jaimoe Johanson, Butch Trucks, and Berry Oakley began a journey that would take them to international celebrity and tragedy, giving the world ‘The Allman Brothers.’ The band sold over 100 million albums, earning countless Grammy awards, induction into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and recorded what many consider the greatest live album ever released, “Live at Fillmore East’ in 1971. Berry and Duane died in separate motorcycle accidents almost a year to day apart, while Greg has battled drug addiction and his former marriage to Cher.
The band 38 Special began when two neighborhood friends, Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zandt met in Jacksonville in the early 70s. Yes, Donnie’s older brother Ronnie was the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd who died in that fateful plane crash in 1977 and his other brother Johnny now sings with the band.
