The summer is flying by so quickly. Summer has just completed and Labor Day is past us. We can’t help but think of America when we think of the summer. So, here’s a list of songs that make us chant U.S.A, U.S.A.
Don McLean’s “American Pie” is not your typical July 4th song, but a must hear on the day we celebrate our freedom. The songs pays homage to Buddy Holly and the day the music died that cold February night in 1959, bur frankly we always lose our hero at an early age.
“R.O.C.K. in the USA” by John Mellencamp is a 1985 patriotic song that helped solidify John with fans from rock and pop.
“American Girl” by Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, and the Beach Boys “California Girls” are a little bit of a stretch, but the songs are so American that we felt any article of great songs on the 4th of July would have to include these classics.
“Saturday in the Park” by Chicago is a definite July 4th tune in that the lyrics say “the 4th of July” and it captures life in America, from those that were born here to those that chose to live here.
Honorable mentions today include “Living in America” by James Brown, “American Pie” by Don McLean, Lenny Kravitz or The Guess Who’s “American Woman” and Toby Keith’s “American Soldier.”
