Gregory Polanco Inks Impressive Extension

The Pirates played on Sunday and had themselves a very nice start to the season with a big win against the Cardinals. Then, within 24 hours they signed one of their best young players to an extension that keeps him in town for more than a few years.

Gregory Polanco signed an extension with the Pirates that is thought to be in the $30 million range that will last five years. Polanco’s deal is likely to be very close to Starling Marte’s extension he signed back in 2013. That deal was for $31 million and lasted six years.

He is one of the best young players and the game and while he has struggled at times (.235 rookie campaign), he improved his game in 2015. Last season he hit .256 with 27 stolen bases.

In the opening game on Sunday, Polanco had two hits, one of which was a double, and scored twice.
