One Hit Wonders – Part Two

Have you ever had a song in your head that you just couldn’t stop or get out? Doctors call them ‘One Hit Wonders’ and we’ve heard of 1,000 ways to not get them out of our heads. Here’s part two of our look at these songs…

“Take On Me” by A-Ha was a hit in 1985 by the boys from Oslo Norway and drove everyone to that new video channel called MTV. Ever heard of it?

“Afternoon Delight” proved to be that catchy mid-70s song whose lyrics were intended to be dirty but unspoken. Yes, the Starland Vocal Band hit it big for 15 minutes, and gave us a great scene in the Will Ferrell movie ‘Anchorman.’

“You Light Up My Life” by Pat Boone’s daughter Debbie Boone, broke through the hard rock in the 70s becoming her only hit. Most of us are glad it was her only smash.

“What I Am” was an odd catchy song from the odd and catchy Edie Brickell. The song and marrying Paul Simon were the two best decisions of her life.

“Tainted Love” by the mid-80s group, Soft Cell, became the anthem of the musical era we know as synth-oriented techno influences. The band still tours today.

“Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin is a rare ‘acapella’ tune, meaning there are no instruments of any kind in the song. Happy people, happy song, happy he went away after this song.
