You love Celine Dion, No Doubt, Rachel Platten, Adele, Coldplay and Andy Grammer. Every now and then you find yourself singing a song that comes from your best friend’s country CDs, and it surprises you. What may surprise you is many of your favorite singers actually came from the country music field. Let’s take two days to share “Your Favorite Country Crossovers.”
The obvious example of a Country cross over is Taylor Swift, who was born in middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, but moved to Nashville at the age of 14 to be a Country singer. It was her songwriting that initially created her success, but Taylor eventually crossed over to pop fans and won four Grammys in 2009, becoming the youngest Grammy ‘Album of the Year’ winner. Her intentions were always to follow in the footsteps of Dolly Parton, Faith Hill and other great Country women singers, but as we know now, this isn’t the case (not in a bad way though!).
Kenny Rogers recently retired after nearly performing for 50 years, and what you many fans did not know that Kenny’s roots and early success was that of a rock singer: his claim to fame was being the lead singer of the 60’s psychedelic band “The First Edition” and voice of song ‘Just Checked in to See What Condition My Condition Was In.” Kenny began performing ballads, and had his biggest success after the drug scene as a Country singer.
We can’t forget about LeAnn Rimes, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill and Olivia Newton John, who all started making country hits long before hitting the pop charts.
