Carly Pearce can laugh about it now, but one concert from her past stands out as a night when taking the stage might not have been the best decision.
The country singer recently looked back on a Washington, D.C. performance from her 29 Tour and acknowledged that she had consumed too much alcohol before the show. Pearce remembered realizing before going onstage that she could be headed for trouble, but she ultimately went through with the performance and finished the concert.
The candid admission came during a lighthearted “Sip or Spill” interview with Entertainment Tonight as Pearce promoted her latest album, Honest Woman.
Alcohol also figured into another memorable story Pearce shared during the conversation, although that time she was the sober one. She recalled going on a date with a man who became so intoxicated that she ended up driving him home. The evening became even more awkward when, according to Pearce, he appeared to fake receiving a phone call rather than kiss her.
The stories arrive during a busy stretch for the Kentucky-born singer, whose new album was released Aug. 28.
Honest Woman brings Pearce back toward the traditional country and bluegrass sounds that influenced her early musical life. After spending nearly two years working on the project, she has described the record as a return to the musical roots that helped shape her.
The album features “Dream Come True” and “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” among its singles.
Pearce is now taking the new material on the road with a series of performances in more intimate venues across North America. The run begins Sept. 10 in Detroit, with scheduled stops including Chicago, Minneapolis, Toronto and Boston before concluding Oct. 22 in New York City.
For Pearce, the tour offers a chance to introduce a new chapter of music while looking back at some memorable moments from earlier chapters, including at least one night when getting through the show was an accomplishment all by itself.
